What To Wear On Nights Out This Autumn

$

0

Whether you’re popping down the pub with friends or planning a big night on the town, it is important that you look your best. Looking good doesn’t need to cost a fortune either, here are five great outfit ideas for any nights out you may have this Autumn.

Over The Knee Showstoppers

A cute floral dress and a pair of showstopping over the knee boots are the perfect ensemble for a night at the casino or for a bit of fun at the pool table. They are a great way to still rock your minis without compromising comfort in the cold weather Every closet needs one. It’s worth checking in advance what the dress codes for the particular casino you’re going to is – some places are a lot more relaxed or upmarket than others! Of course, if you’re going to be doing some betting you may want to practice your skills at home first. Visit Lucky Nugget Casino from the comfort of your sofa to brush up your skills, whether its poker or blackjack, so you can be sure of success on the night!

Colourful cover-up

As the leaves on the trees turn from green to a gorgeous mixture of reds, yellows and oranges you should let your wardrobe reflect this. The evenings will also be getting colder, so you don’t want to be left freezing cold when you could be snuggled and warm around the bonfire. Capes are popular this season and whilst we all wish we could afford that £550 number from Burberry our favourite A-listers have been sporting, thankfully ASOS have provided a more budget friendly version. Opt for bright coats and capes with pizzazz to add some colour to your grey and monochromatic  basics.

A line mini skirts

You may have spotted or sported these already. There has been a sudden surge in demand for a line suede miniskirts this season. When you’re spending the evening chatting with friends over a glass or wine or two you can’t go wrong with a nice woollen skirt paired with a polo-neck or cosy jumper. If you’re feeling the pinch this month, this wool skirt from New Look will enable you to look gorgeous without breaking the bank.

Statement dresses

Do not fold and put away your favourite summer just yet! There’s nothing quite like getting dolled up for an evening on the town. If you’re going to a trendy cocktail bar you have the perfect excuse to treat yourself to a new glamorous ensemble. This leopard print dress from Kate Spade would be ideal for an evening like this and it can easily be dressed up or down – perfect for the transition from day time to evening wear. Cheat your way into rocking your summer dresses this autumn by pairing them with tights, wearing them over polo neck tops or pairing them with gorgeous booties!

A little glam goes a long way

Sometimes we tend to dislike Autumn and Winter because we feel like we have to dress down or put comfort before fashion when dressing for the cold. There’s always a way to find the perfect balance and fuse the two together! If you’re spending the evening dancing the night away, you’ll want an outfit which is simultaneously glamorous, gorgeous in photographs (they always end up on Facebook), and not too uncomfortable (although we can always put up with a little discomfort in the name of fashion). This vintage-style dress from Lindy Bop is a steal at £29.99, its gorgeous red colour is perfect for autumn.

If the dress celebrates your body, by all means get it.

Never thought I’d see this day in England, but last Sunday was too sunny! And sometimes even too much sunlight can ruin your photos (lots of squinting shots and too much brightness/exposure). I had worn a coat with this dress but to get rid of it as I was boiling by the time we had walked a for a few minutes.

Valentino made me fall in love with floral dresses. This Macrame Lace dress is everything! But I wasn’t going to break the bank for it :/

I stumbled upon this Definitions red floral dress by chance. I’d never even heard of the brand but decided to sample it. I have to say top marks to them! This feels amazing on. It’s such a body hugger and it’s got some ruching detail on the side.

Fitting dresses normally make me feel uncomfortable because I’ll have to be sucking in my tummy for my dear life the whole time. But this felt just right. I haven’t worn these Cabo Louboutin pumps in over 6 months now and I was starting to wonder if it was wise in the place to spend so much on a pair of shoes that you’d barely wear…but then I peeped these pics and had a brief moment of reassurance. Yassss! Monies well spent! ;)

Red Carpet Review: Vogue 95th Anniversary Party

The Vogue 95th Anniversary Party had a few interesting looks that I thought I’d share:

My favourite of the event was Bella Hadid n a laser cut sheer dress with ruffles. It hugged her in the places that mattered most. She looks flawless!

I would so wear Alexa Chung’s look. Another winner for me. Cute!

I love Zoe Kravitz and that dress is pretty okay but this is not her best look. Those shoes basically gotta go.

Elena Perminova showed ALL of them how to do romantic and sexy at the same time in a very ruffled sheer dress.

Rihanna’s look was nighties inspired. Very pretty but she might as well have been ready for bed.

Zendaya Coleman always has a fashionable moment. This distressed mesh shirt dress looked cool.

I’m loving metallic tones at the moment so I was all YASSS Lily Alridge.

I would co-sign Hayley Baldwin’s dress without the pockets.

Anna Dello Russo was of course wearing the next IT must-have item. Those Marco de Vincenzo velvet braided heels everyone has been reposting! I would love to raid her closet.

Suki Waterhouse is a girl after my heart. I’d wear this now!

Blogger Chiarra Frragni opted for a bralet and mini skirt with matching shell appliqués.

Kristina Bazan rocked an oversized suit.

Grace Bol looked pretty in a floral dress.

Kendall Jenner channelled a mermaid gave face in black fishtail strapless dress with white trimming. Face is on point! I love this offering.

Liya Kebede was laid back for the evening in a sequinned split belted skirt.

Kris Jenner posed up with son-in-law Kanye West.

Gigi Hadid looked edgy and colourful in a mini dress. She always serves.

I couldn’t pull this off but Izabel Goulart looked smashing in a red leather cutout fringed ensemble.

Natasha Poly showed off her toned bod in a sheer number with ruffles.

Stella Maxwell and Barbara Palvin posedlike true models.

A few guests caught my eye:

That’s how I felt when I bought these babies.

These are distinctively the most comfortable boots/heels I have ever worn. I usually have flats handy when I wear heels but not with these. These boots have also shown me a new side to my husband. Who knew he had an over the knee boots fetish…? You know something is cooking when your other half keeps asking why you are not wearing his favourite shoes… He even mentioned sending a ‘Thank you’ note to Kurt Geiger for making these baddies ;)

Cheers to the freaking’ weekend!

maxi skirt 9 a

I didn’t realise how much I loved skirts that enveloped me in the bulbous comfort of soft fabric until I received this show-stopping number from Choies

I love maxis because they are perfect for events such as weddings and red carpet. They also make for great costumes! When buying maxi dresses or skirts, I’m a little sceptical as I am petite. I fear I’ll end up looking like I’ve been swallowed up by the item. So I always tend to wear big skirts with my tallest heels…

Cue these 6 inches. How anyone walks in them (including myself) is a mystery to me.

If you can manage to hold a pose for 15 seconds on one foot (see top image) wearing any Louboutin 120mm heels, you’re my kind of girl. That being said, I can only hold that pose for 5 seconds max.

How can shoes be so uncomfortable yet SO SEXY?

Last week I ditched posting an outfit of the day because I just wasn’t up for it. My #NetflixChill mode was charged on power and I wasn’t having nothing to do with fashion or style. As much as I love spending time on social media and on my blog, sometimes it all gets too much and I need a break. Who feels that way sometimes?

And by taking a break, I mean comfort eating and watching back to back episodes of American Horror Story. Can I just comment on how screwed up Ryan Murphy’s mind is! I was creeped out yet captivated. I finished Asylum, Coven and Freak Show in two weeks. And now I have a new found love for Jessica Lange and a girl crush on Sarah Paulson.

Of course two weeks lazy days and indulgence means I stayed away from the gym. The only form of working out I did was reaching out for the bag of popcorn…

I hopped out of bed and decided the only thing that I needed to snap out of my lazy haze was a bright red outfit and poppin’ purple lipgloss.

Hence this look.

If you want me to buy something, cover it in gold.

I’ve been very fond of the metallic trend. Especially clothing or accessories in gold tone. I bought this skirt last year on the Coast sale. Coast is masterful at making occasion wear and this was no exception. The movement in this sheer skirt is something else.

Mixing silver and gold is a no-no for most people. But I thought this metallic silver top worked perfectly with this skirt. You know two pieces are meant to be together when they look like a one piece once you pair them. Everyone thought this was a dress!

By the way these velveteen burgundy strappy heels are my current faves :)

What’s your weekend forecast? I predict a chicken coconut curry, a lie in and a healthy helping of Netflix & Chill x

leather vintage coat with hood a

There’s nothing better than a coat that doubles up as a dress.

PS: The other titles that I had considered before settling for ‘Vintage Advantage’: Little Red Riding Hoodie, Little Red Riding From the Hood, Red Coat (PLL fans will get this), This Could Come in Handy for Role Playing…only joking!

I love vintage hunting because sometimes it can be so shite and other times you’ll luck out and find the most amazing item! I had quite a successful spree at Cow Vintage over the weekend. I was in love with all my finds and I scored them at a bargain!

Couldn’t believe my luck when I stumbled upon this red leather hooded coat (that gave me Beyonce in that Burberry long leather coat vibes) at Cow Vintage. I haven’t visited my local vintage shops in ages. The good thing about shopping in vintage stores or thrift stores is the element of surprise. You just never know what you’re going to find! Will it be in your size? Will it be in a good condition? Will it be a long lost memorabilia that could be worth millions???

I tried on this leather coat and it was instantly love at first try. I was sold. This guy saw me trying it on and said; “Did you come here in that coat? I mean is it yours? Because if it isn’t you need to take that home with you today. It’s fabulous dahling!”

You know statements like these are all I need to put me out of dilemma. And I wasn’t even having any!

I was SOLD!

OOTD: Casual Chic

duster coat white 1

Casual chic. Isn’t that just fashion-speak for ‘basic’? And is it me or do white coats always look medical?

Who else gets that from white coats? This outfit was giving me serious doctor vibes…

So casual chic…You can just tell I had run out of titles. Can someone link me to a an OOTD title generator if one exists :( ???

But what’s is chic though? It’s the most commonly used term on blogs and magazines these days.

Effortless chic. Casual chic. Sexy chic. Flawless chic. Thot chic…????

Like saying someone looks chic just means they wearing ripped jeans and a t-shirt but they still look too cool for school. And as easy as it sounds, only a few people can manage to pull that off. For years Kate Moss had me fooled. I thought all I needed was some ripped jeans, a tee with a few holes in it and some raggedy boots. Nah. I tried it but I flopped like Meek Mill’s comeback.

But seriously, a lot of times we actually look our best when we’re dressed down AND chic. I gave dressing up for a ‘blog outfit’ a miss last week and just took these pictures on our way out. Even though my version of dressing down will sometimes involve heels because my height situation means I just can’t feel cool without them.

What are your ultimate closet go-to items for when you can’t be bothered to put on a show?

I would take my skinny jeans, a duster coat, cami top/t-shirt and barely there heels any day.

What does ‘chic’ mean to you?

PS: This bag is one of my finds from my vintage hunt last week. I told you I found gold that day!

Have you ever tried explaining what a blog is to a 84-year-old?

Mathew’s Nan has the coolest backyard garden in Rugeley so when I found out we were going over to hers for Sunday dinner, I packed my camera and lens kit in my bag and off we went. After lunch, I whipped out my camera and asked Matty to snap away. She spied me from her kitchen window breaking into all these poses and obviously got curious. She asked me what the occasion was and I said I was a blogger…

But before the very confusing conversation of explaining what a blog/blogger was ensued – (What is a blog? Why do people give two dams what you’re wearing or where you bought it? Do you KNOW these people? Why don’t you just keep a REAL diary? Didn’t they teach you not to talk to strangers?) ; Mathew jumped in and clarified; ‘She has a website and she loves taking pictures.’ Simples.

Which really is what I usually say as I’ve come to realise that despite the apparent saturation of blogs in this new age, many people still do not know what a blog is. I won’t even try with my parents. I’m still trying to get them to join Facebook and WhatsApp…

Do your friends and family know about your website or are you keeping it all alter-ego-ish and under wraps?

Bought this Pull & Bear grey knit ribbed co-ord in Spain in the summer. It’s my best holiday buy yet. Too comfy and chic. And chic is always a winner.

PS: This is the other bag I got my vintage trip to Cow Vintage. So many finds, so little money!

I’m such a sucker for clothing with a built-in belt.

Maybe it’s because I’ve never owned an actual belt. It’s just one of those things that even as a fashion lover, I have never developed an interest in. Most of my trousers will have a belt attached to them. See this pink faves and this baby blue pair here. I wear jeans without belts :(  I feel like I should have a standard belt on my Christmas list seeing as this is just disgraceful. I’ve just never invested in belts. Or gloves.  Or hats. Damn, my accessories game is so weak…hahaha!

What accessories have you just never bought or seldom buy?

My 2015 Christmas Wish List

$
0
0

My husband asked me yesterday I knew what I wanted for Christmas and I realised I really didn’t.

I haven’t put much thought into what I’d like to get this Christmas. Even though I have been browsing a few holiday gift guides, I’m still uncertain. For me receiving gifts is a chance to get people to gift me items I’d be reluctant to get for myself but that I really liked!

Based on that, here is my 2015 Christmas Wish List:

Stuart Weitzman Nudist heels in Pewter (£270) – Because they are timeless. Also because I have been hopeless in love with metallics for a while now. This strappy heels would complement so many pieces in my wardrobe right now. Plus seeing as it’s nearly sold out everywhere, it needs prioritizing. It’s definitely my top choice.

Marc Jacobs Decadence Fragrance (£81 per 100ml)– I know fragrances are a safe and expected buy for everyone at Christmas but Marc Jacobs’ latest offering has me wanting to blend in with everyone and get this baby. It may be the fact that it’s designed like a mini purse. Whatever it is, Marc Jacobs has got everyone buzzing about ‘Decadence’. Who can blame them? It smells gorgeous! Plus I might be able to squeeze out a second gift if I pick a fragrance ;)

A Self-portrait dress (£180 – £400) – Because who doesn’t love a Self-Portrait dress?  They are so beautifully structured and are the perfect juxtaposition of textures. It’s sheer details and sexy see-through layering are some of the hottest spring trends that have carried over to the winter.

Yves Saint Laurent Monogram Suedette bag (£1,250) – This is just reaching because I know we can’t afford this splurge at the moment but you never know… Aim for the moon and you just might get a star. But seriously, I’ve just never treated myself to a high-end bag. I keep saying my next ‘big buy’ will be a bag but I always end up getting shoes. So this will stay on my list as I need an upgrade in the bag department and this tan mini monogram classic is giving me all kinds of green light.

Olivia Burton Bee Motif Watch (£135) – Because nothing says #TeamBey better than a bee motif watch…haha. But seriously I’ve been in love with this watch for about a year now but it’s just never made my ‘Purchased items’ list. It’s one of those things that you REALLY like but you can still get good night’s sleep if you don’t buy them. The perfect Christmas gift.

15298563471_f49a2ee86c_o

Christian Louboutin So Kate (£525) – Because what is a wish list without the ultimate must-have red sole? I want the patent nude So Kate heels so bad. And the purple velvet So Kate Louboutins would also be a lovely addition to my collection.

Make-up shopping spree (Especially the Joan Smalls Estee Lauder Matte lipstick collection)– Because I’m now addicted to makeup and beauty products, wouldn’t it feel nice if someone gave me a right treat at Sephora, House of Fraser, Selfridges or MAC? There are so many beauty items that I so NEED to get. Like a highlighter, countless number of lipsticks, the new Estee Lauder matte collection, The Anastasia Beverly Hills World Traveller palette, Colourpop Cosmetics Nillionaire eyeshadow, Lime …the list is endless. My only request is, they HAVE TO look as good on me as they look on Joan though. I already got the vibrant violet shade Stronger… couldn’t wait.

A trip to Waterstones – Because I’ve been so busy being an adult that I haven’t had the time to read any books at all! I really do miss reading and would just love to go into a bookshop and browse for hours. Yes, I love book shopping. There is something about book stores that makes me want to spend hours in them. Buying stationery, cut little journals, fancy organisers and novels always puts me in a good place. This Christmas I’d like to slip in a good few additions to my library AND make the time to read them.

What is on your Christmas wish list this year? Will you aiming for the ‘big splurges’ or keeping it simple with a Christmas jumper? Remember, what you get depends on how nice you have been this year… If you’ve been naughty, good luck!

gold sequin nye outfit a

Living my life like it’s golden by Jill Scott is one of my favourite songs. It’s all about living in the moment and treasuring every moment. Living in every moment like it’s your last. It’s New Years Eve and of course sequins and bold metallics serve as the perfect elements for a perfect night out look. But this is more than just an NYE outfit idea. However flamboyant you decide to look tonight. Let it be more than just an outfit. Let it be your attitude. Let it be your voice. Make your personality stand out as much as that sparkly dress…

This year has been full of ups and downs and lots of surprises too! Last month I lost my Aunt. She was my mum’s older sister and the hurt was immense. She’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever known. We were so close that I used to tell my mum not to feel irreplaceable because I had my Aunty Frida, hahaha. But life always has the last laugh. On boxing day I heard shocking news about one of my classmates who died in a fatal car crash. I am still in shock. He was so young and enthusiastic. Things like that put your life decisions into perspective.

New year resolutions are overrated but this year if I’ve learnt one thing, it’s that life is about seizing every moment. Never procrastinate. If you want to do something, go for it. NOW. Take a chance. There’s no guarantee that chance will ever present itself again.

I don’t mean to sound downbeat on NYE but that will be my mantra in 2016.

And of course I’ve had the most amazing year for which I am thankful for. My blog has grown immensely. I’ve collaborated with brands that I looked up to, how cool is that??! My style has been evolving and I’ve gained a new found confidence. I’ve even uploaded my first YouTube video. Something I have been too timid to do, but I’m getting past that now. Granted the video quality/content are not on pro levels yet, but I’m getting there. My next video is looking soooo much better already. thanks to all your lovely feedback.

I’m also starting a brand new job in the new year as a Digital Development Officer, so excited! God is good oh!

And speaking of blessings, I got my 2015 statistics report from the WordPress team. My blog was viewed a whopping 1.1 million times this year and I owe a massive thank you to Moji of Mojintouch, Dana Fashina of I’ve Got Cake, Abrielle of No Rule, Just Style, Jackie of Style My Dreams and the famous ‘anonymous’ commenter E. I need to find out who they are! Y’all are too sweet. Thank you :)

Blogging Is No Cake

green ankle grazer trousers asos saint laurent heels a

I have been so out of touch lately. I am usually an ardent reader of fashion and celebrity blogs. My favourite and number one source of gossip being the Daily Mail. They publish the pettiest crap which naturally I find very entertaining. But I’ve been so out of it lately that I wasn’t even aware Kim had a baby boy. Geez. I feel so uncool and out of touch hahaha.

So imagine my utter surprise and disappointment when I checked one of my all time favourite fashion blogs yesterday evening, only to find out she was closing down her website. I shed real tears I kid you not.

If anyone asked me what I aspired my blog to be in a few years I always said Red Carpet fashion Awards. Catherine Kallon is always on the money with her critique. She always has full details on where to get what. She worked around the clock. Her blog was spot on and not your average fashion blog. She styled herself like an EDITOR (which is what I am striving for). She got invited to the most coveted parties and events. It’s so sad that she’ll be closing down her blog. She and Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily are the two black women I looked up to in this fashion blogging business. Linda Ikeji is another lady who has influenced so many start-ups due to to the fact that her blog made her a billionaire.

I don’t know her reasons for signing off permanently, but it just made me realise Blogging is not all bread and butter. IT IS ONE TOUGH MOTHERFUCKER.

People say to me sometimes, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe you got a free dress. I am starting my blog TODAY! All I have to do take a few pictures of myself every day and people will follow me…’

And I’m like, OOOKAY.

I check back on them in a couple months to see how the blog is doing and they’re all, ‘No one’s even commenting on my blog and I work so many late hours. It’s on hold for now…’

WELP.

Nothing is ever peanuts.

Blogging is no cake especially when you have a full time job. I update posts on my way to work. Try to write on  my break. Get up an earlier to schedule posts…

I wasn’t even doing OOTD posts when I started off. I only introduced my personal style about 2 years down the line after debating with myself for a long time.

Blogging takes a lot out of you. Sometimes, I can’t even come up with a bloody outfit title L

And it’s not just my time I’m using up now on my blog. It’s my husband’s too. We can only do photoshoots on days when he and I both are free.

And you know how boyfriends/husbands feel about blogging

I won’t even go into the social media aspect of it. The part where you constantly feel like, why can’t I be as perfect as her? Why is her life so GOALS?

Goals. A word I hate BTW.

You must have heard about Essena O’Neill’s story. She quit Instagram after achieving over 500K followers.

Whatever your hardship with blogging, always remember to put yourself first.

Like I said, I don’t know why Catherine is closing down her site, but I commend her for making that decision.

It must have been SUPER TOUGH.

But at the end of the day. We come first. Blogging can be toxic. And sometimes we’re just a whole lot better off without it.

Was blogging what you expected? How do you handle the pressure?

May the forces be with our blogs. x

When in doubt, I go monochromatic.

A lot of my default looks have been composed of pairing similar tones and monochromatic shades. If I’m not matching exact colours, I’m pairing different shades of the same colour. It has become tiring really. Because I’ll wear something and Matt will go; Wait,  haven’t you worn this EXACT same outfit EXACTLY the same way before?

And I’ll go; Na. That was bubblegum pink and magenta, this is fuchsia and blush pink. FOCUS!

So yeah, I’ve been buying a lot clothing in the same colour family. You might think I’ve just gone out and purchased 5 green knit polo necks. But if you look with closely and with an open mind, you’ll see I’ve got 5 completely different colour tops in sage, olive, chartreuse, camo and emerald :/

Catching up on celeb sightings while I’ve got the time!

Olivia Munn looked stunning in a frayed mini dress with lace scallop detail and black Casadei pumps on the set of Good Morning America.

Kendall Jenner looked positively chic smart in tan trousers, plunge bodysuit and a leather jacket. Loving the subtle sheer choker.

Keke Palmer paired a lace top with beige trousers at the Fox TCA Winter 2016 All-Star Party in Pasadena, CA. I love those glittery slippers and she looks super laid back but still so glam.

Toni Braxton looked gorgeous leaving the Golden Globes party in a white dress. I spy a nip but she looks fly so I’ll let it slip…

OOTD: No Photo Album

dusty pink coat 1a

The chill has been so real lately, I haven’t even had the effrontery to attempt a photo session. So into my archives I’ve dug…

And this is what I came up with.

Took these a few weeks ago when we went to see my hubby’s Nan after the new year. We have become the camera-toting couple and as soon as we starting snapping away, she became curious.

‘So when are we going to see this photo album?’

That made me laugh so hard because the last time I actually bought or used a photo album was light years ago. I can’t even remember going through one.

I told her she’d have to subscribe to my blog or follow me on Instagram to view the exclusive photos, hahahaha.

Even though I always explain to her that I have a blog, she still can’t see the point of taking so many pictures if you ain’t going be sticking them up in no photo album.

Makes me wonder what will be the THING to do with your pictures in the future.

Will anybody even care about Instagram? I would give anything to access my hi5 and MySpace profiles again. Damn. We knew we was LIT back then. The foolery that was (and is still) social media. Bwahahahahaha.

Did you use any of these now defunct social media sites in the past?

On that note, have a jolly good weekend!

electric blue jumpsuit a

A jumpsuit that is bright blue and belted? I had to have it!

I’ve been swamped for the last few weeks and as much as I love my blog it has had to take a back seat in my life for a while. I had a bit of social media withdrawal syndrome… I didn’t feel as if my anything was #goals (if I see that hashtag one more time BTW…) so I wasn’t even in the mood for my feed :/ But consider me  on the road to recovery! I feel more enthused, refreshed and inspired. I think Beyonce’s Formation hit had a role to play in my revival. I soooo needed that tune in my life. As soon I heard, I knew. I JUST KNEW. #LIFEREAFFIRMED. I knew I had to get in formation immediately.

If you feel like you need to take a break from your ‘timeline’ or ‘wall’ or ‘feed’ and have some you time. Please do! You’ll thank yourself later.

Oh and speaking of treating yourself, make sure you enter my SEXY VALENTINE’s GIVEAWAY and be sure to follow 3 Wishes on facebook to be considered. Good luck ;)
