ABY Style: My Top 7 Essential Dresses

$

0

It’s one thing stacking wardrobe essentials but it’s another stacking the just the perfect pieces of each item. Amongst other clothing staples, dresses stand out for me because they are versatile. From dressy to casual to off duty; there’s a dress for every occasion. But what dresses are we certain to find if we raid your closet? What staples do you keep around all year round? Here are my top 7 must have dresses for EVERY season.

1. The Classic Pencil

A classic. well-fitted pencil dress is a definite must-have for every woman’s wardrobe. They are very versatile and flattering most of the times. Even if you don’t dress up for work, sometimes you just feel like slapping on a real polished sheath dress which is perfect for everything from interviews to a big presentation at work and to after work dinners. That chic life!

What I look for: solid classic colours, versatility, cute details like zips, lace or ruffles to uplift the silhouette.

Love these: Colour Block  Pencil Dress, £60,OasisIzabel London Plunge Neckline Pencil Dress, £10, House of Fraser; Bonded Turn Back Pencil Dress, £18, Warehouse

2. The Cami Cut

Camisole-inspired sleeves are very chic and sexy I reckon. Perfect for when you want to feel sexy and effortless like you dressed down when really you didn’t! Also the thin, barely there strap of the dress gives it a very sexy and vulnerable look. Cami dresses tend to favour girls with smaller busts a lot of the times which is one thing I don’t like about them but there are still a lot of camisole dresses tailored for ladies with bigger girls. You just have to find the perfect one ;)

What I look for: A reasonable neckline (sexy without being too revealing), prints, romantic colours and rich embellishments.

Love these: Red Spaghetti Strap Lace Corset Dress, £28, Choies;  VLabel London Lyle Wrap Front Midi Dress With Cami Straps, £68, ASOS; Little Mistress Cami Top Lace Bodycon Dress, £58, House of Fraser

3. The Skater Swirl

For the days when you feel like extra movement in your hemline or when you just want to feel like your six year old self wearing a frou frou dress with countless layers and just swirl all day…The skater dress is your best option. You can’t go wrong with a good bell-shaped skater dress. Marilyn Monroe had the skater dress pose on the lock down.

What I look for: A well bonded and flared skater. That is ALL. AQ/AQ are about that life!

Love these: Koko Full Skirt Mini Dress, £195, AQ/AQ;  Kaley Lace Hem Skater Dress in White, £24.99, Missguided; Raspberry Blossom Skater Dress by Tiger Mist, £47, Revolve Clothing

4. The Statement Maxi

For the days when jeans just won’t do, the maxi dress is a perfect alternative. It’s comfortable to travel in, easy to layer up, and works all year. Long story short, it’s a must. You won’t feel overdressed if you wear it to brunch with friends plus it’s also perfect for running errands. It’s not a special occasion dress, but it’s an elevated alternative to your basics that you’ll rely on every now and then.

What I look for: Graphic prints, lots of movement, perfect slits and bold colours.

Love these: Forever Unique Tropical Mirror Print Maxi Dress With Open Back, £220, ASOSTed Baker Nelum China Maxi Dress in Nude Pink, £349, John Lewis; Country Specials Printed Halter Gown, £69.99, Mango

5. The Evening Showstopper

It is always essential to have that one knock out dress saved up for wedding season, formal dinners, and special events. It is usually something formal and full length. I love to go one that is in a stand out colour that flatters my complexion. Also I pick a dress that will complement my accessories and footwear. I don’t like floor grazing dresses as I am sort and prefer my heels to be visible. If the hemline touches the floor, there has to be a slit.

What I look for: Bold, sexy colours and elements. Can you tell Kerry Washington is one of my style icons? When it comes to evening wear, my bae SLAYS. Sonam Kapoor is another favourite. ***FAINTS.

Love these: Wine Lena Dress, £66, Virgos Lounge, Priory Lilac Dress, £75, VLabel London

6. The Cockail Dress

For me, the perfect cocktail dress should embody a day dress and an evening dress in one. So there’s that balance. Cocktail dresses come in handy for those special occasions that don’t call for a totally formal dress. All you need is a pretty cocktail dress that can transition from dinner and drinks to a party, if need be. Choose a stand out yet classic dress that will work all year to get the most for your money.

What I look for: bold colours, florals, prints and feminine details.

Love these: LUNA MAXI DRESS, £165, FOR LOVE & LEMONS;

7. The LBD

Because sometimes colour is too conventional ;) Every woman’s closet should come equipped with a killer LBD. I always pick black dresses whose details make up for what it lacks in colour. Because it’s a black dress, make sure the cut, fitting, details and embellishments are to die for. Black dresses are a must because they are an iteration you can dress up or down and wear to both celebratory and sombre occasions.

What I look for: Details, details, details! Lace, sheer, draping, beading and cut.

Love these: Lace Draped Dress, £36, French Connection; Kiro Dress, £128, All SaintsOne Shoulder Eyelet Dress, £50, Topshop

8. The Little White Dress

Or the LWD. Because where there’s a LBD, there’s a LWD. I love white! I mean who doesn’t? Perfect for days when colour or even black just won’t do. The classic white dress always wins. I love white because you can pair it with anything in your closet. You can play with lipstick and accessories as much as you like.

What I look for: Lace, sheer, mesh, embellishments, off shoulders, asymmetric hemlines, lots of draping and dimension.

Love these: Glacier Wave Sheer Dress, £175, French Connection (gorgeous!); Parisian White Crochet Tassel Hem Sleeveless Dress, £24.99, New Look; One Shoulder Dress, £49.99, H&M

There goes my dream dress collection! I wish I had half of these. SIGH.

What would we find in your wardrobe?

What dresses are your favourite? Trench dresses, mini dress, bodycon dresses…WHAT?

Or are you not just a dress person at all???!

Spill below.

Stay tuned for an #OOTD ;)

9 Looks, 1 Girl: Blake Lively in Cushnie et Ochs, Roksanda, Kristinit, Zuhair Murad, Sam and Lavi, John Galliano, & Antonio Berardi

Woah! I have been away from the blog for so long. I have a few personal things going on and have been unable to stay current unfortunately. Well, whilst I was away, my style crush Blake Lively came through and slayed nine freaking looks all in one day! And I just even CAN’T. Like, that’s why I love Blake. She’s a fashionista at heart. She’s promoting her new movie, ‘The Age of Adaline’ and is going at it full force. Let’s glimpse at her fashion choices:

This first look is probably my favourite. She wore a  Roksanda Lockwood dress and coat from the Resort 2015 collection. She styled the colourblock dress with £525 Christian Louboutin ‘Front Double’ Silver glitter pumps. Roksanda Illincic is known for her statement colourblockers and this dress is one of them. I am craving everything especially the coat.

Blake looked ravishing in a mustard and teal pair of pala\\o trousers with a black camisole top. I love how that statement belt elevates this look. Beautiful.

En route to the ‘Live With Kelly & Michael’ studio, the Gossip Girl was spied wearing a vibrant magenta and black striped £192 Kristinit wrap dress  with a pair of Alexa Wagner ‘Ellen’ laceup sandals.Hot pink is very flattering on most skin tones and I think she looks pretty here.

Her £182 Sam and Lavi leaf print strapless jumpsuit is so me and I totally see myself rocking it. In fact I need a similar jumpsuit in my Spring wardrobe. The look was styled with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and  Charlotte Olympia red sandals. Hair and makeup game on point here. Bangin’!

Her shoe game though! On arrival at the Sirius Studios, Blake wore a John Galliano Fall 2015 navy look that features a mixture of bold prints . I’m not too fond of this particular print for summer but I’m in love with the £475 Sophia Webster ‘Lacey’ strappy sandals in black.

Blake left the Sirus studios looking pretty in a pale-pink Cushine et Ochs Fall 2015 look. I definitely prefer this soft yet powerful look to the previous one. YASSS!

Blake was spotted leaving her hotel. She blew it out of the park in a navy and white print off-the-shoulder cocktail dress from Zuhair Murad’s Fall 2015 collection. This is undoubtedly my favourite look of the day. The fit of that dress on her is amazing! Lasylike, chic and breathtaking.

Arriving at Good Morning America in NYC, Blake sported a piece from the Marc Jacobs Fall 2015 collection. I know this is a fall inspired look but she looks polished and sharp especially wearing those £605 Christian Louboutin ‘Tucsick’ pumps.

Her look at the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was the simplest yet one of the most impressive. I love how her Antonio Berardi LBD marries ladylike poised elegance with a hyper luxe finish thanks to the gold beaded grid embellishments. The look was complete with another pair of Sophia Webster metallic heels.

That is a LOT of looks! Which ones took your fancy?

I absolutely fell in love with the Roksanda colourful dress and matching coat, the leaf print jumpsuit and the off-shoulder uptown girl Zuhair Murad dress :)

fringe suede 10

Hey blogger buds! Happy month of May! My birthday month is here ;) #May6…Hehehehehe

Today’s outfit post is a Blogger Style Collaboration. A few weeks ago a few bloggers and myself got involved in a style challenge. I wanted to see how each person interpreted different trends. For this post, we showcased the FRINGE trend. I am a fan of fringe but I can’t remember the last time I wore anything with a fringe!

For this trend, I opted for a fringed suede skirt with a simple white off shoulder body.

Red Carpet Review: The 2015 Met Gala

The 2015 Met Gala

The theme of the 2015 Met Gala, one of the most fashionable nights of the year; was “China: Through the Looking Glass,” and celebs definitely pulled out all the stops on the red carpet. This is supposed to be that one night where everyone takes the most fashion risks. So, let’s see who were our best and worst dressed at the 2015 Costume Institute Benefit Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Beyonce flaunted her slim bod in a Givenchy nude heavily embellished crystal dress. This is her go to dress, so no wow moment here. Even though I will admit this definitely the most daring version of the dress she has worn to date. Her face is slaying! Jay Z also tidied up in Givenchy.

Bad Gal Rihanna channelled canary yellow feels  in a dramatic train gown by Chinese designer Guo Pei. She knows how to bring the drama and her dedication to fashion is apparent. The dress is not my cup of tea but it is very on with the theme and I applaud that.

Despite the mixed reviews, I actually loved Cara Delevingne in Stella McCartney.

My style crush Hailee Steinfeld looked absolutely fabulous in a Michael Kors red gown.

Solange Knowles in Giles Deacon came through with that China theme. Hand posing inclusive. Love it!

Kerry Washington wore a pink Prada dress and green heels. I am on the fence.

Gabrielle Union was a beautiful breathe of fresh air in a Zac Posen burgundy dress. Stunning.

Amal Clooney went for layers in a red strapless John Galliano gown. I like it.

Miley Cyrus looked good in an Alexander Wang studded cut out dress.

A Roberto Cavalli sheer dress was Kim Kardashian’s choice of the night. She’s considered a ‘style icon’ by many so I expected more. This has been over played on the carpet :(

Kendall Jenner served model realness in a Calvin Klein Collection green dress. Love the cut out!

She’s known for bold silhouettes but Jennifer Lawrence surprisingly downplayed it in a Dior column dress with a cut out front. I love the beaded neckline.

Karlie Kloss in Versace was one of my faves by far.

FKA Twigs is definitely a best new style contender. Loved her in a Christopher Kane artsy dress. She doesn’t do normal.

Zendaya Coleman never takes a day off fun fashion risk taking. Her style is young and fearless and she looked the part in a Fausto Puglisi high low gown at the MET ball.

Gigi Hadid looked radiant in DVF dress.

Janelle Monae looked pretty in an H&M cape ensemble.

H&M was repping at the gala! Vanessa Hudgens also opted for a H&M beaded red dress.

Zoe Kravitz in Alexander Wang. I am always here for her style and effortless aura.

Rita Ora skewed sexy in Tom Ford.

Taraji P. Henson looked stunning in Balenciaga.

Karolina Kurkova looked stunning in Tommy Hilfiger. Yasss!

It was all about tulle for Alicia Keys and I loved it.

Lily Aldridge in Carolina Herrera was one of my top looks of the evening. Want that fish purse!

Supermodel elite, Naomi Campbell looked sensational in Burberry Prorsum.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was a stunner in Atelier Versace.

Selena Gomez was pretty in a Vera Wang white dress. I didn’t care for the head piece though.

Emily Ratajkowski’s Topshop floral dress will be sold out by tomorrow morning. Hot!

Hailey Baldwin also opted for Topshop. Want this dress!

Joan Smalls wore a Roberto Cavalli floral appliqué dress. Waist is snatched!

Here for Olivia Munn in  that ombre J. Mendel dress.

Adriana Lima looked killer in Marc Jacobs. That hair and makeup!

Rose Byrne in Calvin Klein Collection. That is one hot dress. Darn!

Tassels are in! Sienna Miller rocked a red Thakoon number. Gorgeous.

Lady Gaga brought geisha realness in a Balenciaga dress.

Jennifer Lopez in Atelier Versace. She looks great but we’ve seen better from her.

Kris Jenner in Balmain looked beautiful. Would’ve gone for different shoes.

Claire Danes in Valentino was a good look for me. Love it.

Leave it to Sarah Jessica Parker to make H&M look like haute couture.

Emily Blunt went back to her Prada days and rocked a caped dress from the brand. Beautiful.

Diane Kruger seldom fails. She looked hot in a Chanel ensemble.

Chrissy Teigen looked great in a St. John black low back dress. Too safe but I love the hair.

Elizabeth Banks pulled off turquoise beautifully in a Michael Kors dress. Love her style.

I have a feeling I might be one of the only few who absolutely love Courtney Eaton in Dolce & Gabbana.

Behati Prinsloo looked radiant in Tommy Hilfiger .

Katy Perry looked beautiful in Moschino by Jeremy Scott.

I love stripes so I loved Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Roland Mouret dress. Very beautiful.

Anne Hathaway looked like a life size golden globe in a Ralph Lauren Collection hooded gold lamé dress. Already laughing at the memes that will follow. She asked for it.

Reese Witherspoon opted for a simple look in a Jason Wu dress. Pretty.

Kate Mara in DVF looked sensational.

Sofia Vergara in Marchesa looked beautiful but her style is so one note. I’m bored.

Lily Collins looked dainty in Chanel.

Olivia Wilde wore a Prada dress. I love the dress sans gloves.

Amanda Seyfried also looked stunning in Givenchy.

Dakota Johnson looked super cute in a Chanel mini dress. Am I crazy for liking this?

Karen Elson in Dolce & Gabbana was like, The Queen mad or nah??? D&G is here for the headpieces and I’m loving all of them!

Kristen Wiig in Prabal Gurung was a stunner.

Allison Williams in a Giambattista Valli red tulle gown.

Madonna covered up in Moschino.

Anna Wintour’s daughter, Bee Shaffer looked pretty in Alexander McQueen.

Gong Li was sensational in Roberto Cavalli velvet gown.

Girl crush Georgia May Jagger looked effortless in a Gucci geisha iteration. One of the few to follow the night’s theme.

Kate Hudson wore a Michael Kors column gold dress. Hmmmm.

Poppy Delevingne in a Marchesa floral applique dress.

Katie Holmes pulled out a new fringe hairdo in a Zac Posen dress.

Keri Russell looked great in an Altuzarra feather dress.

Anna Wintour in Chanel.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen co-ordinated black outfits in Vintage John Galliano for Dior.

Emma Roberts in Ralph Lauren Collection

Lizzy Caplan in a Donna Karan Atelier draped metallic dress.

Dianna Agron in Tory Burch

Chloe Sevigny brought her own flava in a J.W. Anderson dress.

Who made your best dressed list?

I loved Elizabeth Banks, Karlie Kloss, Beyonce, Rose Byrne, Lily Aldridge and Sienna Miller.

Happy Tuesday and God bless!

denim skirt 2

Ola!! I am off work at the moment and but the amount of errands I have to run is insane! My blog is suffering from my mad new schedule. Coupled with that and the fact that my birthday just passed on Wednesday 6th May, I have been losing the will to will to write. Or even log on to WordPress because I am dreading to see what my stats have dropped to. Arrrgh! #GODSAVEMYSTATS

I haven’t gone through my birthday look yet but here’s a look we shot last week. I got this semi washed denim skirt from Missguided and I’ve been loving shirts lately so I paired it with a crispy plain white button down shirt and off course (my ultimate favourite pop of colour) a pair of suede magenta court heels. I have so many favourite heels but I can confidently say this is definitely one of them. Nothing beats a classic pump.

The best thing about these shoes is everyone mistakes them for the £650 Manolo Blahnik Hangisi Crystal Embellished Pumps.

Nah. I’m just a smart shopper. Hehehehe. Dune makes them in nudes, grey and black I think. They are superbe and worth every penny!

This ripped pencil skirt is so rad!! The only thing about this skirt is, the pencil is literally so STRAIGHT it feels like a STRAIT jacket. The movement around my knees was so limited. URGGGGH.

I’d say grab one in every colour if you can. I’m especially persuaded if they’re in suede. Swoon.

I don’t have a pet but this clutch might as well be my cat. It’s so soft and lovely to hold. Plus, I can fit EVERYTHING in it! I tend to carry around spare flats and my massive DSLR camera at parties so a sizeable clutch is one of my go to accessories. This faux fur one from Coast is so lovely. Plus it was on the sale!

What bargains have you bagged lately?

Have a fab weekend!

Hello, hello, hello! Just a quick visual post to recap my weekend ;)

I was a nanny a few years ago to the cutest little baby girl. She’s 3 years old now (and doesn’t remember me, aaarrrggggh!) but she’s still my little cutie BFF. She got christened over the weekend at Aylesbury. The christening reception party took place at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre . It was my first time being up there. It’s such a beautiful location with all the vintage locomotives and steam trains still in place. It’s popular wedding reception venue and I could see why! Even more so we were blessed with sunny weather! Peep the pics from our day in Aylesbury. I have limited information about outfit details but I will try to list what I can.

I wore: Dune Breanna Heels, White Jumpsuit & Kurt Geiger Bag.

Vera (who plans to overthrow me and take over my blog :/ …) wore a floral draped dress, white blazer, white heels and a Moschino bag. Sexay cat!

Her little sis gave her a run for her money in orange pumps and a white bodycon dress. Love the floral touch on the hair. Cute!

birthday jumpsuit 11a

I’m absolutely loving my new job. Unfortunately, I can’t even so much as look at my phone talk less of updating the blog because I’m super busy all day. Last night, I got around to sorting these pictures (while everyone else was watching the billboard awards).

Took these on my 28th birthday (May 6th) while we were headed out for a quiet meal. There was no big partay or as Instagram calls it, #TURNUP. These days I prefer to turn up on my couch with a glass of Cava and a good series lined up. Thank God for making me feel at 28 like I’ve earned my stripes. Only coming to terms too with saying my age out loud, so yeah I must be getting wiser too lol. I’m one of those people who still feel like it’s their birthday until their zodiac season is over and Taurus season is almost over. WELP! :(  #StopTheClocks!

That being said, stripes are one of my favourite trends. I own a myriad of striped clothing. Stay braced for my stripy OOTDs.

Red Carpet Review: The 2015 amFAR Gala

$

I’ve missed doing my red carpet reviews enough! I don’t even read about them on other blogs because it pierces through my soul. So as far as I am concerned, no celebrity has hit any carpet since April. I’m glad they all waited for me…lol. Well, amfAR’s 22nd Cinema Against AIDS Gala brought out some of our favourite famous faces yesterday in France and it got me excited! Here’s why:

CK has been pulling all the stops for Kendall Jenner. She wowed in a mauve Calvin Klein Collection crop top and maxi skirt combo. Hot.

Chanel Iman in Zuhair Murad Couture stole the night. Yasssss! Zuhair never fails and Chanel looks right stunning.

Joan Smalls totally slayed this black dress. Dayummm! Hair and makeup for the win.

Not my favourite Jourdan Dunn look but she looks great.

Eva Longoria gave me an Elsa (Frozen) vibe in a soft blue hue in a Geoges Hobeika Couture lace gown.

Best red dress of the evening goes to Lara Lieto in a figure hugging cowl back beaded dress. Wow.

Zoe Kravitz sultry game face stay strong. She contrasted bright red lips against a white dress. Beautiful.

Even though the sheer thing has been over done, I thoroughly love this teal green dress on Irina Shayk. Pure fiyah!

Rita Ora was red hot in a Marchesa floral appliqué ruffle dress.

For Adriana Lima, simply does it. Loved the dress and face being served!

Toni Garn worked a print dress. Look at all that leg!

Karolina Kurkova is known to be a showstopper. Loved her dress.

Karlie Kloss in a Tom Ford sparkly number looked sensational.

Barbara Palvin was hot in a red sheer fitting dress. Want it!

Co-founder of Marchesa, Georgina Chapman brought the floral feels in (what else) a Marchesa dress.

Mary J. Blige wore a strapless column gown. Looking good but I think it’s time to try a new hair colour.

Charli XCX served sultry in a black off-shoulder  Vivienne Westwood Red Label dress. Hmmmmm. She can do better.

Gigi Hadid was white in Tom Ford. Too bad her dress gets lost in that background :(

Sienna Miller worked a metallic Ralph Lauren Collection gown. Love the red lip.

Hanne Gaby Odiele and Binx Walton look way too cool.

Diane Kruger went for a couture look in a feather skirt. Interesting.

Michelle Rodriguez’s dress was haute! But I just needed hair and makeup to deliver.

Doutzen Kroes was another lady in red. Love it.

Dita Von Teese stayed true to her aesthetic in Ulyana Sergeenko Couture.

Aishwarya Rai looked pretty in lilac.

Shanina Shaik wore a black sheer lace dress.

Blogger Kristina Bazan looked super cute in a red dress. Such a doll!

Another blogger on the scene was Chiarra Ferragni in a floral sheer dress.

Hofit Golan wore the cutest princess gown ever! Not sure a belt was needed but so pretty!

Natasha Poly wore a black sequin dress. No complaints here.

Are you feeling Melissa Bolona’s ruffle dress? I want her shoes though.

Marion Cotillard in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture did not impress. That shade of green is not flattering on her.

Anja Rubik was another guest in a another garish colour. Is her blue dress electric enough for you?

Mariano Di Vaio looked sharp as a pin in a navy suit.

Shout out your faves below!

tan nude 4a

Happy month of June baybes!! I can’t believe it’s raining today. We haven’t seen any proper rise in temperatures in England so far. And people blame me for not ‘working on my summer bod‘ just yet?

This post was scheduled for Friday but by the time I got home I just crashed and put off any blogging for the weekend. I’m still on that tan, nude and rust colour scheme. I haven’t worn colour in a while, I feel so strange but I’m loving it. I’ve been all monochrome and nude lately. I even went ahead and wore a nude lipstick which for me is big because I am ALWAYS in a bright lip. I am surprised I loved this absolutely! I was like okay, Mac, bring on the nudes! I have like 3 nude lipsticks now. LOL.

I took out my braids 2 weeks ago and my curls were all back and bouncy like a spring chicken! I have been thinking about adding highlights/colour to my dye but we’ll see if I go through with that in the next few weeks. I watched a few videos on YouTube and so many of them literally scared me into seriously rethinking dyeing my hair? Naturalistas reading this, what are the pros and cons? All I need is just a few streaks of colour…it can’t be that damaging right?

Thanks for reading my blog and wishing you a very adventurous summer and a blessed June.

NB: Notice how ready I was to break into a Usain Bolt-like sprint when that dog tried to befriend me? I love dogs but from a distance! As soon as they come close, I’m like stay in your lane DAWG. #NoCuddleZone :/

The Kendall + Kylie at Topshop collection is nearly sold out online but store launches are still going strong! For the launch party in LA, Kylie Jenner looked sexy in a £20 Orange Square Neck Ribbed Maxi Dress. I love that she picked a simple ribbed maxi dress for the event but made it totally her own by tying a knot at the back. Werk babe! She’s one smokin’ teenager.

The  jersey maxi dress features a high square neck.

Kendall styled a printed top, sheer culottes and strappy heels. She always looks stunning in a red lippy.

Whose look is more your style?

Have a fantastic weekend folks!

tony awards 2015

The 2015 Tony Awards happened last night and there were a lot of drool-worthy looks to write home about. let’s recount: Vanessa Hudgens in a Naeem Khan floral halter gown was one of my favourite looks of the evening. She stole the show. The hair, makeup and that gown are such a winning combination. She shut that carpet. Florals are winning this season. Elisabeth Moss in Oscar de la Renta looked ravishing. Rose Byrne has been a red carpet hit for me lately. i am in love with her Delpozo red deep V plunge dress. Bloody gorgeous! Her husband Bobby Canivale also looked yum. Kendall Jenner and CK have been winning. Loved her Calvin Klein Collection flamingo mini suede dress. A little too simple but she’s a doll. Jennifer Lopez. Hallelujah, she’s not in a sheer dress. That alone gave her major points! How hot does J.Lo look in this Maison Valentino beaded gown and that vampy lip? Smoking! Joan Smalls gave life to a floral draped dress with a slit. Shoe game on point. Bee Shaffer in a Marc Jacobs sequin dress looked positively fierce. Ashley Tisdale switched things up in a Solace London co-ord set. Alicia Quarles also opted for trousers. Love her makeup but something’s off about her jumpsuit. Emily Ratajkowski opted for a midnight blue gown. Hot babe! The Affair‘s Ruth Wilson looked stunning in a fuchsia drop waist gown by RL Collection. Anything in hot pink, you know I want! Debra Messing in a Zac Posen plum dress was absolutely stunning. The hair keeps me on the fence but she’s glowing nonetheless.   Carey Mulligan in Balenciaga looked fabulous! Sutton Foster looked positively ‘Younger’ in a frilly ball gown. Pretty. She has great hair! Anna Wintour stuck to her favourite. She wore a sparkly Chanel number. Patina Miller in Jason Wu was a classic beauty. Taylor Schilling in Michael Kors Resort was an absolute stunner. Amanda Seyfried’s Oscar de la Renta dress was a little too autumn for me buts she looked pretty. Kiesza looked fun in an Altuzarra sheer dress. Love her hair. Ashley Greene looked beautiful in Jason Wu olive dress. Shoes ruined it though :( Thalia brought colour to the carpet in a yellow gown. Lovely! Amber Valletta is one hot woman. But I think this black draped dress does her no justice at all. Emily Skeggs in a Christian Siriano print gown gets a YASSSS from me. Nick Jonas cut a suave pose in a black suit. Marg Helgenberger killed it in a Marchesa Notte gown with a Swarovski clutch. Bella Hadid looked stunning in a simple Prabal Gurung dress. The drama of that dress was the back. Hot! Annaleigh Ashford’s Zac Posen gown was in a stunning green shade. I love it. Beth Behrs donned a pale blue gown with a gorgeous train. Constance Jablonski kept it very light in a floral Wes Gordon dress. She’s a natural beaut. Laura Michelle Kelly in Zac Posen Monica Lewinsky wore a red off-shoulder dress. Bernadette Peters in Zac Posen Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka Hosts Alan Cumming and Kristin Chenoweth looked cheery together! Vanessa Hudgens is without doubt my best dressed today. But Joan Smalls, Elizabeth Moss and Rose Byrne were all top of the class.Olivia Greene (minus shoes) and Bella Hadid also looked gorgeous.  Who are your best dressed? Happy new week! xo Lydie

suede mustard 4

If you follow me on Instagram @artbecomesyou (if you don’t follow me, the thunder that will strike you is still doing push ups, hahahaha….! But honestly, follow me. Stop playing:) ) you’ll have seen previews of my new honey-blonde dyed kinks. I LOVES IT! At first I was sceptical but then I remembered the days of my youth when I rocked fierce haircuts and garish colours fearlessly and went, what happened to me?? So I went with it. Et voilà! I think the colour is still a little subtle but it’s turned out exactly how I wanted it. I might touch it up in the future but at the moment am all about that honey kinky ‘fro ;)

I have been feeling neutrals but this suede mustard wrap dress by Missguided had other plans for my nude  outfits streak. I saw it and to be honest the only reason I bought it was because YOU JUST CAN’T TRUST ASOS LURKERS SHOPPERS. Like I’ll be saving stuff in me basket, feeling all happy and confident and by the time I get to checkout, ASOS be like

‘OOP, WHILE YOU WERE BEATING AROUND THE BUSHES, CHECKING OUT OUR SALES AND SHIT, SOMEONE RAIDED YOUR BASKET AND MADE AWAY WITH YOUR ITEMS. HASHTAG YOURESCREWED :/’ TWO DAMBS.

So yeah, I bought the dress. I always tell myself that I’ll return items I don’t need but end up keeping half of them. (FIRST RULE to staying broke, lol).

I don’t why I am writing in caps today. Seems like it bed drink time for someone.

Enjoy your weekend loves xx

wrap skirt 907

Hi there my blogosphere loves! First of all thanks for all your kind comments and feedback. Especially those who miss me, lol. I swear I am reading your blogs even though I haven’t left any feedback. But just like Arnie, I will be back! I have managed to devise a plan which will help me catch up with all my blogging activities. I really miss going through my ‘Reader’ on WordPress and catching up on my fave bloggers and their juicy posts. Sorry if I’ve been MIA but I swear I will catch up!

This outfit was shot a week ago when I was feeling slightly slimmer and sexy, hahaha. I have since had a few too many tubs of Haagen Dasz Strawberry Cheese cake ice cream and I DO NOT look the same! Plus someone left a box of chocolates and macaroons at work which read ‘Help Yourself’ at work and I admit, I more than ‘helped’ myself. You know you are way past your prime when ‘Getting a Summer Bod’ is not top on your to do list any more….

Back to me in this ‘fit. These rose gold mules are my favourite shoes EVER! YASSS, OFFICE! I have been rocking them like crazy. The only bad thing with loving something so much is you wear them out very quickly. But I can’t help myself. I paired a basic polo pink top with this super affordable wrap skirt in mocha, and there you have it, Kim Kardashian for a day.

2015 bet awards red carpet fashion

The Babes of Hollywood walked the red carpet at the BET Awards Sunday night for the 2015 BET Awards. Snazzy cut outs and glam glittering fits were the talk of the day. Let’s check out who fizzled out and who sizzled!

I knew Ciara would deliver. Loved the beaded slip dress and natural makeup. Hot!

Bombshell Cassie looked hot in a black drape mini dress.

Tracee Ellis Ross melted my heart in a white bustier midi dress. SLAY!!! Lipstick and accessories game is strong.

Kelly Rowland brought the show with her outfit in an array of feathers. She’s pretty but I’m on the fence with this look.

Sevyn Streeter looks so good in violet. It compliments her skin so well. Loved this.

Loved Draya Michele’s navy jumpsuit.

Monica was on fire in a white caped gown.

Christina Milian opted for a risqué mirrored strappy jumpsuit with cut outs. In line with her new ‘Turned Up’ persona.

Karrueche Tran suited up in Tran style with lacey separates and a cage bralet. That hair took it to next level.

A sparkly shirt dress was in line for Zendaya Coleman. That hair is the biz.

Angela Simmons rocked a heavily embellished mini dress. Hot.

Amber Rose and Blac Chyna were twinning in all white. Blac Chyna is unrecognisable. Love this!

How cute does Brandy look in that ‘fro??!! I love it.

Gabrielle Union sizzled in a Halston Heritage sequin dress.

Nicky Minaj may have gone through a style transformation but this black lace front zip dress was too conservative and dull for the event. I wasn’t a fan :/

Eva Marcille wore a strapless sparkly jumpsuit.

Naturi Naughton slayed in an ankara creation by Kyemah McEntyre. Yasss!

Letoya Luckett looked hella good in a little white dress.

La La Anthony went for fun and playful in a colourful Peter Pilotto dress.

Apryl Jones and Omarion came to slay in power couple mode.

I have never seen Serayah before but she looks amazing!

Who loves a man in pink? Flo Rida is here for it. Serving  us a summer trend for the lads.

Thigh high slits were the order of the day for Mila J.

Joseline Hernandez was fierce in fringe.

Yara Shahidi from Blackish looked so pretty in a print jacket and matching skirt.

Lil Mama was edgy in a suit. Her game face was on!

Jazmine Sullivan looked great in a LWD with a cape.

Elle Varner rocked a Celeb boutique dress that was seen on everyone two years ago. I am not pleased :(

Sanaa Lathan wore a glitzy midi dress. She’s a bombshell.

Janelle Monae slated everone in a black caped dress by SAFiYAA.

Justine Skye was pretty as a button in a statement necklace and little black dress.

Tinashe is so pretty but I wasn’t feeling this snake print get up.

Laverne Cox repped in a navy jumpsuit.

Essence Atkins worked a baby pink dress.

Michelle Williams looked good in a green Herve Leger dress.

Natalie La Rose let her hair do the talking and wore a black dress. She’s pretty!

A fringed dress and a smize were on tap for B. Scott.

Demetria McKinney worked a cape too.

Raven Goodwin wore a coral jumpsuit.

Shaun Robinson sparkled in a Lorena Sarbu dress.

DeJ Loaf rocked a sheer black ensemble.

Nicole Ari Parker looked beautiful in those braids.

Demetria Lucas D’Oyley looked pretty in a colourful skater.

Who were your favourite looks from the 2015 BET turn out? Spill below!

STYLE RANT: Bloggers Love – Are We Ruining It For You?

bloggers love 1

The reason for this post is, I was browsing around Zara the other day when I overheard this girl saying to her friend, ‘That would look nice on ya.‘ To which the other girl responded, ‘Nah, it’s on all over IG. Every blogger’s wearing it.’

Many a times, a high street retailer has released an item that will instantly take off. Overnight, they become IT items. These items sell off the shelves like hot cakes. Before you know it they’re being featured on every single #OutfitOfTheDay post on almost all the blogs.Your Twitter and Instagram feed are flooded with versions of them.

The most popular high street retailers are usually the culprits. Zara, Topshop, Asos, H&M & Forever 21.

My question is, do popular items put you off? Or do you buy them and put your own spin on them buy styling them uniquely?

I believe, a true fashionista makes the item not the other way round. If I really Love something and it’s well made, I will get it.  But sometimes, I really get put off things that I’ve previously liked. I can’t really nail the reason down to the popularity of the items, but subconsciously seeing it all the time made me weary. That being said, I used to be a Michael Kors fan. I woke up one morning and all my cravings for MK whatsoever were completely gone… :/ In the same way, I can’t see myself buying the Valentino rockstud heels now…

There are two kinds of shoppers:

THE EXCLUSIVE SHOPPER who seeks out the most underground, lesser known brands that will offer trendy items but with a very unique finish and flair. Shoppers like this steer clear oft IT items. They support local boutiques, up and coming designers and favour rare vintage finds. They pride themselves on finding rare pieces. They enjoy wearing brands but it CAN’T be current season. Chanel? More like Vintage Chanel. If everyone’s wearing Louboutins, they’re wearing Chloe and Lanvin. They wear a Forever 21 dress and make it look EXCLUSIVE. They enjoy making you sweat to guess where they’ve got something from. They are the Urban Outfitters, the Desiguals and the Free Peoples of the world.

THE IT SHOPPER who buys whatever catches their eye. They do not discriminate with brand names. If it looks ood, they’re in. You will usually find current season’s trends in their wardrobe. Nude heels, camel coats and the almighty nudist sandals. Vionnet who? They’d take a Tom Ford padlock heel any day. They have a flair for styling and restyling their staples. They are not put off by how popular a brand is. They buy it and make it theirs. They are the Zaras, The Topshops and the H&Ms of this world.

To be honest I don’t think you can clearly distinguish between the two because I find I am a little bit of both. I only go for trends I love and try to give new retailers or boutiques a chance. I love to add my own flair to trends. As much as I try to stay away from trends, I also have a drape camel coat in my closet ;/ I never buy items I don’t like just because they are trendy however.

Which shopper are you? I’m sure there are many more categories I haven’t listed here. Shout out below if you know any!

Nevertheless, I have hoarded my fair share of trending items. Almost all of which have never been worn.

Remember the camel wrap buckle skirt from Zara that blew up last year? Everyone gave styling it a go.

I loved Fisayo Longe of Mirror Me‘s rendition

The Corporate Catwalk also nailed her styling

EJ Style uplifted the camel skirt with killer boots.

Along came these Topshop Ghlillie court strappy heels. Everyone instantly fell in love! They were released in 4 colours and each one sold out.

I need to style these shoes pronto! For some reason, they never really suit my outfit whenever I’ve needed to go out.

Followed by two Zara heels which took over most spring wardrobes this year. The Zara Fringe Suede Heel and the Zara Blue Strappy Heel.

I am in love with the way Christina styled her beige pair here!

Mine need to come out this summer. I can’t believe the tags are still on!

I have these blue heels. I wore them once and I was not into them. I definitely regret buying these. I’m just not feeling them. They look good on other people though:

I know some people who call trends a uniform and wouldn’t even touch them with a barge pole!

What’s your take on trendy shopping? Yay or nay?
